2009 Canongate Junior Tour Frequently Asked Questions

What are the goals of the 2009 Junior Tour?

As parents of juniors who have competed on the Canongate Junior Tour in previous seasons, you know that Canongate takes pride in organizing and running a full schedule of great events.  We have decided for us to continue the tradition we began of hosting well-run junior events and for our Junior Tour brand to remain strong and not diluted, we need to focus on a schedule of fewer events this year.

The current economic situation is impacting our resources that have previously been devoted to running our junior events.  In a nutshell, some of our teaching professionals have elected to take Golf Professional positions or are simply having to allocate more time on the lesson tee.

We also know that many of your families are also impacted, and a schedule with fewer events requires less of a financial commitment and may be more feasible for you.

How many events are now on the schedule?

We have scheduled a total of 7 events, one in each month beginning with our first event at Hamilton Mill and Traditions on February 14-15.  It is our hope that 2009 will be a year to rebuild and we will be able to return to hosting closer to 20 events in 2010.

What is the registration fee?  How do I join?

Registration fees for the Canongate Junior Tour have been reduced, so there is no better time than now to become involved.  Registration is only $50 for the first child in the family and discounted rates are available for families with more than one junior interested in registering for the Tour.  As part of your registration, you will also receive green fees for you and your junior(s) to play practice rounds prior to each event. These passes will be distributed prior to the first event.

Will Junior Golf Scoreboard ranking points still be awarded?

We do have 4 two-day events on the schedule, which allows us to meet the requirement for Junior Golf Scoreboard points to be awarded at those events.  We also have greater capability to distribute all tournament scores to media and college coaches following 2009 events, which should give our juniors more exposure than ever before!

What is the status of the Nike Cup?

We are excited to announce that not only does the Nike Cup live on, but we will be hosting it on September 5-6 at Whitewater Country Club.  Sponsored by Nike Golf, this one-of-a-kind event features our best juniors in a Ryder-Cup style competition against the top juniors from the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama.  I am sure those of you who have been involved with this event in the past share in our excitement this has become an annual event.  We want that Cup this year!

Will there be a Futures Tour or Series in 2009?

In an effort to eliminate the excessive travel expenses for parents on the Futures Tour each club or geographic area will be hosting their own Futures Tour events. The golf professionals will be coordinating an event for the juniors in their respective areas.  As soon as we have a final schedule for each area, we will email it out and post it on our website.  A great schedule of summer golf camps will be available in each cluster to further prepare your juniors for competition.

How do I register for those events?

Registration for these events will be provided on the Canongate Performance Center website. Parents will be able to go onto the website and register their child for a Futures Tournament as if they were registering them for a clinic. Look for event information to be posted by March 1st.

What if I have already registered my Futures age golfer for the Junior Tour?

Parents will not be charged the registration fee for the Junior Tour.  A schedule of events will be posted in early Spring along with instructions on registration.  Thank you for your patience.  Please be assured we will communicate information as soon as it is finalized for you.
